Building a cashless society in Vietnam
70 percent of Vietnam's population are 'unbanked', which means they do not have a bank account. As a result, 90% of all transactions are in cash, something the World Bank wants to fix to ensure financial inclusion. Paradoxically, with 53% of the population now owning a smartphone (the global average is 59%), Vietnam is one of the fastest growing markets when it comes to smartphone usage. VPBank's launch of its fully-digital bank brand, YOLO, has been launched to capitalise on this. Building the bank from scratch on AWS cloud meant it was up and running in just 1 year.
